[ good joke!! surely there are no real killers here..... right?? But despite the ominous text, Do-yoon does indeed meet Jacob at Reverb Center. He's dressed in his usual red and black outfit, earrings and all, with his guitar slung over his back. Technically he prefers bass, but guitars are easier to play without a band.
That, and he wants to buy a nice bass. Not a cheap guitar like the one he has. Though now that he's here, he realizes he never asked the guy ("Jackdaw"? Jack, maybe?) what he looked like.
Well, hopefully he sticks out enough. He rubs the back of his neck while he waits. Maybe he should text Gyu-hyuk just in case... that murder thing could still happen? ]
[Why would he joke about not killing innocents? People here are strange. Either way, he'll be a the Reverb Center waiting for his new instructor.
Jacob shouldn't be too difficult to spot, as he's the one with the black guitar. As for clothing, it's just a regular black hoodie with a crow motif on the back. He's finally attempted to go modern. He spots the red and heads over]
Thanks for meeting with me. I'm Jacob, by the way. I don't think I mentioned earlier.
[ Poor Do-yoon would freak the hell out if he knew the guy he was helping was an assassin by trade. But you know, even assassins wanna learn to play guitar, apparently.
But for all that he's a burly looking dude (compared to Do-yoon, who has the build and look of a kpop idol, because he is one,) Jacob seems like a regular dude so Do-yoon just smiles as he sees him, waving him over. ]
Hey! Yeah, I totally forgot to introduce myself. That was my bad.
[ At least Do-yoon is a lot more polite in person than online. He bows a little, just in nodding his head in greeting. ]
I'm Do-yoon. And it's no sweat. [ He points further back into the store with his thumb. ] The practice rooms are back there. They're soundproof, so you can come back here and practice whenever. They're pretty cheap to rent.
[Just don't pay too close attention to the fact he's wearing brass knuckles or a strange-looking gauntlet and it's fine. Even meeting someone for a music lesson, Jacob goes out dressed to kill. You never know!]
Pleasure to meet you. As I said over the network, I know a bit about music, but I didn't pay close attention to my lessons. But... I thought my partner might enjoy some music and it seemed more personal if it came from me.
[ He will definitely avoid looking too closely, Do-yoon does Not want to deal with anything out of the ordinary, thank u. ]
Acoustic is more freeform than something like piano. You should have no trouble picking it up.
[ He starts leading them back, his gait easy and relaxed. He really likes music, so even if this is kind of a big-box store, he's still enjoying being around all this stuff. ]
I know what you mean. I wrote a song for my, uh, my boyfriend, on his birthday. [ He's not quite used to saying it yet, but he's trying. ] He liked that a lot. Music makes a great gift.
[He pauses for a moment as he puzzles out the word "boyfriend". It's not one used in his time period. But he figures out what the other means from context]
That's exactly my idea. I don't have a specific song in mind, though. Something in French, if you know anything. He speaks French and he would probably like it a lot.
[ It's not used super much in this context in his line or work, either. ]
Something in French... Huh. I don't know any French, sorry. Just English and Korean. Some Japanese.
[ He shrugs. That's fairly standard to him. But they've got their room now and Do-yoon lets them in -- the interior is just your usual sound-studio room, with pointy walls to absorb the sound and what have you. There are a few chairs and amps, but they'll only need the chairs for now.
Do-yoon places his guitar-case on the ground, pulling out a few things from one of the pockets. A tuner, some picks, extra strings... he's got everything you need. ]
Alright, sit down and lemme see your guitar. The first thing you have to learn is how to tune it.
That's all right, an English song will do just as well. It's the sentiment that's important.
[He's staring at all the stuff, not sure what most of it is for. He takes his guitar and rests it on his leg, cradling it in the proper position. This much he knows because the salesperson told him]
Isn't it a bit like tuning a violin? You use these bits up here?
Got it. So you want something like, romantic, I guess? But easy?
[ There you go, off to a good start. Do-yoon holds his guitar much the same, starting at the strings and picking them softly. ]
Yeah, you adjust these till you get the right sound. This side's D, A, E, and this side's G, B, and E. I can basically tune by ear, but you can get a tuner like this to go off of.
[ He fiddles with the tuner, which plays a simple note. It'll do this for all six of them, needless to say. ]
Grab a pick and strum until it sounds like the tuner. Easy, right?
[He listens to the explanation, nodding along and plucking the strings as Do-yoon mentions them. The tuner helps as Jacob plucks at the strings in turn to get them all sounding on pitch]
Cool. Once you've got that down, try and put your fingers like this.
[ Do-yoon demonstrates a simple chord, showing off the difference in the sound. Let's go with A since that's easiest and I can't actually play the guitar. ]
That's A. Make sure you're in the right fret or it'll sound off. And you've gotta use these fingers. [ He demonstrates, leaving his index off while the other three press down on the strings. ] So you can move 'em easier.
[ He'll just continue on like this, focusing on three chords at most. He really likes music... ]
Sounds simple, but once you string them together, it actually sounds alright.
[Jacob shifts his fingers in the proper position, playing the chord so he can hear what it should sound like. And the same when he's shown the other chords]
That does sound nice. I think my partner's going to like this.

[ Do-yoon smiles. He likes how music can bring people together, showcase emotions that are sometimes hard to put into words. ]
You're doing pretty good, though. Now it's kind of just a matter of practicing till you can do it with your eyes closed.
